Kisspeptin-10
Discovered because people whose receptor does not work never enter puberty.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Peptide fragment, 10 amino acids |
| Receptor | KISS1R |
| Research field | Reproductive hormones, puberty |
| Research status | Clinically studied |
| Form | Freeze dried powder |
What it is
Kisspeptin sits right at the top of the reproductive hormone chain. It prompts the brain to release GnRH, after which the rest of the chain follows. Kisspeptin-10 is the short active fragment.
How it works
Through the receptor KISS1R on the GnRH cells in the hypothalamus. The discovery came from genetic research in families where puberty failed to arrive, which revealed this link to be indispensable.
What the research shows
Clinical research has been done on fertility and on how the hormone axis responds. It is one of the better supported substances in this field, but without registration.
Research status
Clinically studied in humans.
Practical
Short acting in the body. Keeps well as a powder, less so in solution.
